Amina of Zazzau

Queen Amina of Zazzau expanded her kingdom's territory further than any Hausa ruler before her, building fortified walls that still stand today across northern Nigeria. She led a cavalry of twenty thousand and never lost a battle in her thirty-four-year reign. Her military campaigns established crucial trade routes that connected West Africa to the wider world.
